Bridges in Portland
April 16th, 2008 · No Comments
2004 Bergevin Lane Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon
Pairs with: The Sellwood Bridge, 1,971 feet long with 75 feet of vertical clearance above the Willamette river. Portland’s first fixed spanned bridge is also one of its most recently controversial. Critics argue it has reached the end of its useful life while others would like to see an alternative to its demolition proposed. According to the Sellwood Bridge Project’s FAQ it is the busiest bridge in Portland due to its isolation from other Willamette River crossings. The project has yet to reach a definitive conclusion.
Why? Controversy surrounding opening bottle, solved.

A few wine reviews
April 13th, 2008 · No Comments
Here are a few wines I drank recently. Not all at once mind you, I had all four bottles glass by glass.
K Vintners 2005 Motor City Kitty
Damn. This wine is sexy. It has a beautiful nose with lots of dark red fruit and just overpowers you when you stick your nose in the glass. I got some great notes of plum, dark chocolate and maybe some citrus on the palate and the finish lasted halfway to the moon. To me this wine felt like sitting in a dark room.
This was a fun one. This wine certainly has its own place with bright red fruit and a little tartness coming through near the end. This is something I wouldn’t necessarily recommend to everyone but if you want a great value, and a fun, Walla Walla red, this is it.
Stephenson Cellars 2006 Viognier
There was only 40 cases of this gem made so if you can find it, grab it. I am a total sucker for viognier and Walla Walla viognier’s in particular. I got fresh apple cider, bananas and some baked bread notes on the nose and the palate was balanced with nice acidity. Drinking this wine made me aware of how hungry I was.
You can pick all three of these wines up over at Walla Walla Wine Cellar but hurry up, not much available. I should know since I was partly responsible for the declining inventory.

Overheard in Walla Walla
April 12th, 2008 · No Comments
Her, green dress black heels 20 years old: “So as I was leaving she says to me, ‘Honey, your tag is sticking out you are going to want to tuck that in so they don’t know what size you are.’ I mean, I’m not that big right?”
Him, birkenstocks otherwise unmemorable face and presence: “Yeah.”
Her: “Right?”

Taste Washington
April 5th, 2008 · No Comments
Up in Seattle (which never happens) for a few days for Taste Washington 2008.
So far it has been loads of fun, got back to my room last night at 2:30 and then woke up for more wine this morning. My phone died so I feel very out of touch. Tonight promises to be even better though. Regular posting will resume next week!
So much beer and wine, so little time…
